The powerpoint is designed to cover all the main teachings, key words, sub-topics and typical exam questions relating to AQA 9-1 Religious Studies Spec A. The word document is designed to accompany the ppt slides. This is intended to provide a ‘safety net’ for all students but particularly those who may be struggling and just want to be clear on what the main learning actually involves. It is assumed that these activities are ‘cemented’ by other activities, especially useful diverges to enhance interest and learning. This lesson was particularly difficult to resource without going too heavily into creationism or science. However, the implication is that these issues will have to be referred to at some point. There is also a homework task to ensure the Muslim beliefs about creation are covered if there isn’t time for a separate lesson. The key concepts are covered in the lesson so the homework should be accessible to all.

It is assumed that these activities are ‘cemented’ by other activities, especially useful diverges to enhance interest and learning. I have attempted to find inspiring examples of pollution with the intention that students begin to engage with the feelings of how crucial the issue is to their future lives and the lives of others. There are extension tasks that could also work as homework task to ensure content is covered if there isn’t time for a separate lesson.

There are extension tasks that could also work as homework task to ensure content is covered if there isn’t time for a separate lesson. Homework is also provided to examine the case of Terry Pratchett and how he considered the merits of euthanasia but went on to achieve more with his life and die naturally. The latter is a really good example of a real case example of how decisions about euthanasia could lead to unforeseen and tragic consequences.

I have attempted to find interesting real life examples such as Ian McCormack and challenges to life after death such reincarnation, science, PVS and the untrustworthy accounts of mediums. The intention is that students will begin to engage with the topic and enjoy some meaningful debate and exploration into the topic. There are two homework templates that ensure the key information from the exam board is covered while the debates and investigation is managed in the lesson.

The Hijab - Issues & Evaluation

A fully resourced, tried and tested lesson on the Hijab. The focus is the debate about banning the Hijab. At an extended level the lesson becomes an investigation into interpreting scripture. The lesson is probably best aimed at Y9 age but could be lower. Resources include a powerpoint, resources for investigating 'for' and 'against' arguments and a template to support students for the whole lesson.
